I've heard Romans 12:1 quoted over and over again in various church settings. This verse has become the catch all for giving a Biblical definition of how one should act in response to Grace. This morning God challenged me to see the application of this verse from a different perspective.
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Romans 12:1 (NLT)
Because I am a physical body, I usually hear "give your bodies to God... let them be a holy sacrifice" and think "I must do more with my body to glorify God and be holy!" I instantly think I must serve more people, because Jesus came to serve.
However, today Jesus says to me, being a holy sacrifice isn't about what I do, but who I am. I'm already blameless and without defect because of His blood shed on the cross. I am who I am because of what He did and not any servant activity I have completed.
Being a holy sacrifice means letting God work things out in my life that I'm unable to do. Having a yielded life to His work and see where He takes me.
Father, help me today, to recognize my position as one who receives Grace. As one who is made blameless and perfect in Your eyes without doing anything. Help me to worship You by letting You work in me.
